2024: Fireside Chat, an Oral History with Folks from Three Area Settler Families

2023: After the Landing: Life in the Mohawk Settlement on the Bay of Quinte 1784 to 1830 with Trish Rae and Karen Lewis
Picture
In this time frame, the Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte (Kenhtè:ke Kanyen’kehá:ka) were establishing their community. They were pursuing their own priorities, in their own ways, with limited interference from officials from Upper Canada. They exercised their own decision-making processes and women had an essential role. However, significant changes were already underway and this era would not last.
2022: Dan Buchanan, stories from the Carrying Place

Local historian and author, Dan Buchanan, joined listeners for a virtual talk on the history of The Carrying Place and Wellers Bay.

2021: Terry Sprague, Our Natural Heritage
Picture
Terry’s presentation drew our attention to the wealth of both natural and human history in Prince Edward County. He will look at the County’s foundation, and how limestone rock, from the finely ground sand at Sandbanks to the impressive limestone shelves along the shore, has played a role in the formation of islands, spectacular cliffs, and collapsed dolines such as Lake on the Mountain.
We heard stories of the famous Ameliasburgh Inlier, the mesa at McMahon Bluff, cattail marshes, wooded swamps, Sandbanks Provincial Park, shipwrecks, waterfalls, and the colourful history of Main Duck Island. We also looked at the South Shore Important Bird Area and the Prince Edward Point National Wildlife Area and learned how these areas have all contributed to shape the county we know as Prince Edward, having left with a better understanding of why Prince Edward County has become such a tourist haven.
2020: Marc Seguin, Marine History of Wellers Bay
Picture
Storms, canals, lighthouses and railways all played a key role in the history of Prince Edward County’s most westerly region, Wellers Bay.  Marc Seguin presented a lively, illustrated talk on the remarkable human and natural history of this area.

Marc Seguin is the author of several books encompassing the marine history of Lake Ontario and Prince Edward County. He's also a long-time resident of the Wellers Bay area, who is known for his informative and entertaining presentations.
