Board Member Highlights

Picture

Karen Fischer

Chair of the Board
Member of Friends of Wellers Bay since 2017

Karen is a white settler and resides on the traditional lands of the Huron-Wendat and Haudenosaunee Nations, adjacent to Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory, in the rural village of Consecon on beautiful Wellers Bay. She is an avid volunteer in the community and beyond, and has a great love for the outdoors, kayaking, hiking, motorcycling, camping, and finding joy in the moment.
Karen is a community economic development professional. She has worked with rural municipalities, organizations, Indigenous communities and businesses for 22 years, as a coach, facilitator, trainer, and collaborator, building partnerships and providing resources and tools to help increase economic and community development capacity.
She has an in-depth knowledge and is very passionate about helping to build vibrant and vital rural communities using numerous community development tools, programs and resources. She has expertise and specific interest in business development, retention and expansion, strategic planning and organizational development, business and community development, Teeny Tiny communities, and supporting the local food sector. Karen is an aspiring ally, and has demonstrated a significant commitment to learning, unlearning and facilitating conversations about diversity, equity and inclusion within her workplace and community.

Ray Patterson
FOWB Vice Chair

Ray Patterson has rejoined the Board of the Friends of Wellers Bay.
Picture
Previously, he co-led the "State of the Bay Committee," which organized a broad community survey and membership drive and completed the proposed Strategic 5 year Plan; much of which was adopted as current areas of focus for the FOWB.

Retired from Nortel Networks after several decades in senior management, including global mandates in Executive Development and Employee Training, as well as Director of Environmental Protection, Ray has also been involved with The United Way, Habitat for Humanity (Brampton) in leadership capacities, as well as PEC Seniors Care, Wheels of Hope (Canadian Cancer Society), and the Ameliasburgh Recreation Committee.
‘Living (almost) on Wellers Bay since 2012 with partner Dr. Scott Donaghue, we have enjoyed kayaking, boating and swimming...hosting our three grandchildren and Scott's family from Sault Ste. Marie.’
Ray has deep roots here. His Father Edwin Patterson and his Grandmother Francis (Weller) Patterson, plus several generations before, were born in Carrying Place and surrounds. Ray is an 8th generation descendant of Asa Weller; one of the first settlers of Carrying Place. The fact that Ray and Scott live on Wellers Lane is a wonderful coincidence.

Karen White

FOWB Secretary
Karen has been a member of The FOWB for several years and is pleased to be on the current board as their secretary.
Karen & her husband Paul moved to “The County” and bought their home on Wellers Bay in 2001.

When Paul died of cancer in 2002, Karen started volunteering for the Canadian Cancer Society. She also volunteers for several other organizations.

Her love of the county and her home on Wellers Bay has provided Karen with a purpose and she is grateful to the FOWB for all they do to maintain the health of Wellers Bay.

Cheryl Lunan

FOWB Treasurer

Cheryl Lunan joined the FOWB board as Treasurer 4 years ago during Covid. The following year she also became our volunteer bookkeeper as our former one closed her business.

Cheryl moved to Consecon with her husband Lloyd in 2012. She is happy to be at the northwest end of the county with so many wonderful people after spending a lot of time at the opposite end of it with family living near Picton. Enjoying her teenage experiences in the County, she came to love it.
Cheryl also volunteers with Humane Society Hastings Prince Edward , PEC Fresh and with Consecon Legion as treasurer. She helps with her granddaughters care when she is off school. Her whole family love to kayak, paddleboard and swim in WellersBay. It is a beautiful body of water and we all want to keep it that way for future generations to enjoy, as well.

Toby Toth

Director 1
Not a waterfront property owner, but a big proponent for well being of the community and Wellers Bay, Toby served as board secretary for a few seasons and has taken up the lead on the Environment Priority Goals. Having started an Environmental Club in middle school and being interested in citizen science from an early age, a focus on the shoreline and water health was an easy fit.

Originally from SE British Columbia, Toby came to this region when posted to 8 Wing Trenton.  Looking to get live a little away from work, she and her husband moved in to Consecon in the early 2000's.  Since moving in to WEST PEC, she opened businesses and raised their son in the community.  A big fan of the west end and the region as a whole, she's also been involved with a number of other clubs, organizations and event committees: Consecon and Area Ratepayers Association, Plastic-Free PEC, Federation of Business and Professional Women, Haunting in the Hamlet, Greater Consecon Area Business Network and Historic Consecon to name a few.

Swimming, kayaking and sailing are some of her favourite past times, as is gardening (and over-volunteering).  Toby looks forward to serving her community and contributing to the health and wellness of the environment.

I am very pleased to be joining the Friends of Wellers Bay Board.  My wife and I moved to Carrying Place in September of 2023 from Whitby, Ontario.   We are very fortunate to have a full-on view of the bay throughout our house, and I have a genuine interest in helping any way I can to preserve what many of you have valued for years if not decades.  My professional life has been around helping companies improve the integration of people, processes and technology in manufacturing and distribution industries.   This career has afforded me the opportunity to obtain insight into many industries throughout the Americas, and to develop insights into process improvements and technologies that can revolutionize business processes. As I retire from this industry, I plan to spend more time relaxing on the bay and become more involved in the community. On the personal interest front, I have been doing Tae Kwon Do for 40+ years, I enjoy exploring the countryside by motorcycle, bicycle or kayak.  I look forward to engaging with the Board and meeting many of you.  So, thank you for the opportunity to share time and space with yourselves and I look forward to seeing you at our various events.
