In 1987, concerned community members gathered and worked together for the good of the bay:

At Incorporation in 1989, the following community members from Carrying Place and Trenton stepped up:

And, with that, Ontario Corporation #827890 was registered. Under the leadership of Mrs. Susan Scarborough, Chairperson in 1989, Friends of Wellers Bay Inc. applied for and received designation as Registered Charity #0813824-52.
In 1989 the break wall was built and the channel dredged for an initial cost of $320,000. Since then, further dredging has been carried out on almost an annual basis to maintain the channel.
Altogether, more than 60 people have contributed their time, energy and experience to the Board!
