About Us
Friends of Wellers Bay Inc. is a registered charity and membership-driven organization dedicated to the environmental protection and community development of Wellers Bay. We are a voice for the bay, a source of information, a catalyst for action, and a community of neighbours united by shared commitment to stewardship.

Our Story
FOWB was founded in 1987 by a group of residents and property owners who understood that Wellers Bay faced challenges that threatened its future. In those early years, the organization's primary focus was a specific, urgent problem: the dredging of the bay, which threatened its ecological integrity and the sand spit that defines it.
That focused advocacy effort was successful. Through persistence, evidence, and community support, FOWB helped ensure that dredging activities were curtailed or redirected, and the responsibility for the bay's management was transferred to appropriate municipal and provincial authorities.
Over time, FOWB's mission evolved. Recognizing that long-term protection requires understanding, monitoring, and community engagement, the organization expanded its work to include water quality testing, educational programming, community events, and ongoing advocacy on environmental issues affecting the bay.
Today, FOWB is incorporated as a charity (Charity Registration No. 0813824-52) and continues to serve as the primary community voice for Wellers Bay. Our membership includes residents, seasonal visitors, business owners, and conservation professionals from across the region.
